Re: Anyone know MF autotronic transmissions Autotronic is the name given to the system that automates some transmission functions, it comprises a control module under the cab RH floor and several sensors in the transmission and hydraulic system. Autotronic disengages 4wd at around 10mph to prevent transmission wind up and excess front tyre wear, it also controls the differential lock engagement I cant remember exactly how It engages the 4wd to provide 4 wheel braking when the brake pedal is depressed.

It monitors pto engagement and shuts off the pto if a sudden excessive shock load is encountered. It provides a facility to engage the diff lock when the linkage is lowered useful when ploughing and disengages it when the implement is raised out of work automaticly. It also monitors and controls transmission range change, transmission oil pressure.

Damaged and brittle wires are common on the 30xx tractors now, many being around 20 years old now Partssensors are available but can be expensive. AFAIK the original type control module are no longer available but newer versions can be retro fitted.

The PTO seems to work when it wants to. Richard I am having problems with my massey autotronic. Lights will not come on in dash,no pto no differential and in low gear box all the time. Checked wires fuses etc. The lift is working, so I assume it is not a filter problem. A friend of mine mentioned, a fuse under the seat,I haven't been able to check this out yet but will do.

Thanks Liberty. Re: Massey Ferguson Tractor If you sit in the drivers seat and look to your right, there should be a control panel, with knobs to control your 3-point hitch, height, speed of lift, draft etc.

If the tractor does have this, it is an electric over hydraulic system to operate the three point. There is an expensive control box underneath the knobs, and there should be a "brain" located under the cab.

You cannot trouble shoot this tractor on your own, the dealer has trouble shooting equipmentand even with that, dealers have difficulty repairing them. Do not take my word for this, just find an honest Massey dealer that has had experience with them and he will tell you the same thing.

Biggest failing is the 32 speed gearbox if fitted. Eventually causes loads of problems apparantly and was eventully dropped by MF. Electrical connections can cause problems if not looked after, but that's the same on any tractor - the more electrics the more to eventually go wrong.
